Darren is an English born Irish international who currently plays for Sheffield Wednesday.

He is a product of the Liverpool Academy and captained the side at schoolboy level before making his senior debut on 10 August 2004 as a substitute in a UEFA Champions League qualifier against Grazer AK.  In total he made 10 appearances in the 2004-05 season, mostly in cup competitions.

The following season Darren spent time on loan at Southampton, making 10 appearances before another loan move to Wolves.  After impressing, the move was made permanent in a 3 and-a-half year deal during the January 2007 transfer window. Potter scored his first and only Wolves goal in the FA Cup against Oldham Athletic on 16 January 2007.

Darren signed for Sheffield Wednesday in a permanent deal on 10 July 2009. He scored his first goal of the 2009-10 season on the 22nd August in a 4-0 win over Scunthorpe United.

He has been capped 5 times by the Republic of Ireland after making his debut against Ecuador in 2007.
