David Seaman is an English goalkeeping legend having earned the second most caps ever for an English keeper. David played for several clubs during his career, most notably Arsenal for whom he played over 400 times.
The Yorkshire man started his career as a youth trainee at Leeds United, however, after just one season he was signed by Peterborough United and at the age of 20 became their first choice keeper. Seaman stayed at Peterborough for 2 years and was bought by Birmingham city, who he won promotion to the top flight with in 1984.
In 1986 David was signed by Queens Park Rangers for over £200,000. It was at Q.P.R where David got his first England call up and made his debut against Saudi Arabia in 1988. Seaman remained at Q.P.R until George Graham, then manager of Arsenal, was impressed with what he saw and signed David for a British Goalkeeper transfer record of £1.3 million in 1990.
Seaman went on to win a number of trophies with Arsenal. Conceding just 18 goals in his first season at the club, he helped Arsenal to the league title. In 1993 Arsenal won the FA Cup and the League Cup followed by the European Cup Winner’s Cup in 1994.
In 1996, Seaman was selected as the ‘Player of the Tournament’ for his superb performances in Euro ’96, saving two penalties along the way and helping England to the Semi-Final. The following season David won the double, winning the Premier League and the FA Cup with Arsenal. He did the double again with Arsenal in 2002-2003. This was his last season at the club before joining Manchester City.
Since retiring from the game in 2004, David has appeared on a number of TV shows including They Think Its All Over and Dancing On Ice.
