About
Eduardo grew up in the Bangu neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro and his football career began with spells at CBF Nova Kennedy and Bangu Atletico Clube. Despite featuring infrequently at youth level, he was noticed by a Brazilian scout who offered him the chance to move to Croatia in 1999. Eduardo enjoyed a successful trial period with Dinamo Zagreb and started to play regularly for their Under-17 team, breaking into the first team in the summer of 2001.
After a blistering loan period at Inter Zapresic (scoring 10 goals in 15 games) , Eduardo quickly established himself as one of Dinamos most important players and consequently won player of the year in Croatia for 2004, 2006 and 2007. After helping Dinamo to consecutive league titles and a Croatian Cup/Supercup double, Eduardo continued to catch the eye of the European elite with goals in two qualifying rounds for the UEFA Champions League and the first round of the UEFA Cup.
In Eduardos last season for Dinamo he netted 18 goals in 18 games before their winter break and went on to finish the season with record breaking figures of 34 goals in 32 appearances (a record that stood for 13 years). He also became the first player to score a hat-trick in the derby between Dinamo and Hadjuk Split.
On the 3rd of July 2007, Arsenal confirmed the signing of Eduardo for an undisclosed fee.
In his second game for the club, Eduardo scored his first competitive goal in a UEFA Champions League qualifier against Sparta Prague. Fighting to find a regular place in the team, he continued his goal scoring form in the Carling Cup and managed to secure more Premier League appearances over the busy Christmas period.
On the 23rd February 2008, Eduardo suffered a broken left fibula and a dislocation of his left ankle in a game against Birmingham City which kept him on the sidelines for the best part of a year.
Making a full recovery, his heart-warming return to action came against Cardiff City in the FA Cup where he scored a brace. Despite suffering a slight hamstring strain in that game, he returned in the following round of the cup scoring a stunning volley against Burnley. These goals proved that Eduardo is one of the most clinical finishers in the League.
On 21 July 2010 Eduardo signed for Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk and will wear the number 11 shirt for the 2010/2011 season.
