About

Luis Boa Morte is a Portuguese international currently playing for West Ham United. Luis primarily plays as an attacking winger although he has been used as a conventional centre forward in the past.

Luis made his debut in English football for Arsenal when he became one of Arsene Wenger’s first signings, joining for a fee of £1.75 million. During Arsenal’s double winning 1997-98 season, he made 15 league appearances and four in the FA Cup. After failing to break into the first team on a regular basis, in August 1999 Luis was signed for Southampton by Dave Jones.

Following a short spell with The Saints, Luis moved back to London to enjoy a successful spell with Fulham FC. Under the guidance of Jean Tigana, he helped the team to win the 2000-01 Division 1 title, making 39 league appearances and scoring 18 goals. Due to a number of impressive performances for Fulham, Boa Morte was called up to the Portuguese national team, winning his first cap in April 2001 against France.

Luis was voted Fulham’s Player of the Season for 2004–05.

In January 2007 Luis signed for West Ham United making 68 appearances in two and a half seasons. During the 2009-10 preseason tour to Beijing Luis twisted his knee and suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
