About

Steve started his career at his local team Stoke City as a 16 year old schoolboy, making his first team debut 3 years later in 1981 against Middlesbrough playing as a right back. Torquay United were interested in Steve and signed the youngster on loan with Stoke hoping he would gain some first team experience.

Steve returned at the end of the 1982 season and managed to gain a first team place at Stoke as a tall, commanding centre-half. Bould remained a first team regular at Stoke until a career threatening injury to his back put him out of action in 1987. However, Bould returned to action in 1988 and his form caught the attention of Arsenal who signed him that year.

Bould became part of the famous ‘back four’ at Arsenal which consisted of, Tony Adams, Lee Dixon, Nigel Winterburn and himself. Steve won the First Division title in 1989 as well as in 1991 with Arsenal. He continued to be a success at Arsenal and won the FA Cup and League Cup in 1993, the European Cup Winners Cup in 1994 and the double under Arsene Wenger in 1998.

In 1999 Bould signed for Sunderland, where he was made club captain and managed to help the newly-promoted club to 7th place in their first Premiership season. Steve was forced to retire in 2000 due to a number of injuries.

Since retirement, Bould has rejoined Arsenal as Youth Team coach and has experienced success with the clubs youngsters, winning the Youth League and FA Cup double in 2009 and managing to retain the league title in 2010.
