A propos

Nuno Valente is an ex Portuguese international left back who had a successful career playing in his home country before moving to England.

Nuno started his career at Sporting Clube De Portugal and helped them win the Portuguese Cup in 1995. His talent was spotted by a young Jose Mourinho at Uniao De Leiria. He spent 3 happy years under Mourinho and when Mourinho left to manage FC Porto, he didn’t want to leave his star left back behind and promptly signed him up. In the 2002/03 season, Nuno helped FC Porto win the UEFA Cup, Portuguese League, Portuguese Cup and the Portuguese Super Cup. He had 3 very successful years at Porto and in 2004 added a Champions League winner’s medal to his collection.

He moved to Everton in 2005 and played out the remainder of his club career at the Merseyside club.

Nuno won 33 caps for Portugal (scoring one goal) during his career and was their first choice Left Back for the Euro 2004 tournament, where they lost in the final to Greece.

In 2009 he retired from football. He now works as Everton’s official scout in Portugal.
